Thousands on hand to watch ship sinking - car parks at a premium
By Geelong Advertiser
Thousands of onlookers have gathered at vantage points in Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads to see the HMAS Canberra sunk this morning.
Sunday, 4 October 2009 — The navy frigate is expected to be scuttled about two nautical miles from Ocean Grove this morning.
Once it settles on the ocean floor it will be used as a dive site, attracting thousands of tourists to the region.
There is such interest in this morning's historic event that police have urged onlookers to avoid the Bluff car park in Barwon Heads, telling them it is now full.
